command "\not" not working?

command "\not" not working?

For example, when I write

Code: Select all

a\not\equiv b
it shows $a\not\equiv b$.

Similarly,

Code: Select all

a\neq b
gives $a\neq b$.

That's weird :? I'm logging in from a different computer now and it looks alright. What could be the problem with my laptop? I'm pretty sure I have all the LaTeX fonts installed.
