If you put a number in a magic box, it will give you a new number after three steps. In the first step , he will add $3$ with the number, then he will multiply the the result with a, then he will add $b$ with the result. If you give $39$ then you get $204$, If you give $420$ then you get $2109$, then if we give $2017$ then what will we get?

$42a+b=204$
$423a+b=2109$

Solving the simultaneous equations, we get $a=5, b=-6$.

Therefore, if we give $2017$, we will get $10094$.

In Dhaka Regional Math Olympiad 2017, the Champion prize in HS category was achieved by students who scored 5 out of 10. And outside Dhaka, they are solving simultaneous equations!!!

This is why Dhaka Regional Math Olympiad is considered to be tougher than the National Math Olympiad itself!!!

No joke guys, this is actually why we see that a large portion of National awardees are from the either Dhaka or, Chittagong.

Now the format is changed though. The 64 District Olympiads select the participants for the 12 Regional Olympiads. So I guess the varience of the question standards between regions is now lesser than before.

I heard that Bangladesh Math Olympiad Committee is planning to arrange camps deeper into the root levels. So in future, we will see tougher questions in those regions too.

Let's go BdMO!!!
